What is Hawaiian ‘Awa?

‘Awa is the Hawaiian name for kava, a plant deeply rooted in Polynesian tradition and used ceremonially for relaxation, as well as to help ease discomfort and inflammation.

Kava resin is a concentrated extract created through a solventless press/water-based process at our lab in Hawaii. Our methods are designed to preserve the full spectrum of beneficial compounds found in properly prepared, freshly harvested kava roots. We use only the highest quality parts of the plant—the waka (lateral roots) and the basal root (root ball)—which are naturally rich in kavalactones.

Every batch is carefully prepared, with strict attention to removing unwanted plant material such as stems, ensuring a cleaner, more refined product. While this process is more labor-intensive, it results in a significantly higher quality, full-spectrum extract.

All kava plants are propagated through cuttings, and over time, many unique strains have developed—each with its own characteristics and effects. While much of the industry blends multiple varieties together, we take a more intentional approach. Over 90% of our kava is sourced from the Big Island of Hawaii, where we carefully select and work with specific strains to best serve our customers’ needs.

Our extracts are small-batch, boutique creations—crafted for those who appreciate quality, nuance, and authenticity in their kava experience.
